Speed Scorpion

I was finally able to get Pandora in the garage Thursday night. I had family in from out of town Friday and, happily, Will seems pretty excited by an old, rusty Camaro that lacks computer screens. He spent pretty much the whole time sitting in the driver’s seat. With any luck, he’ll get to drive this car around a bit in a couple of years when he’s 15.

Will, with the appropriate Camaro driver’s expression.

We had a trip down the hill planned over the weekend, so last night was the first opportunity I’ve had to look at anything. A few years ago I pulled the fuel tank out and found it full of an orange powder, which I assume to be the remains of the fuel I left in the car. I took the tank to a shop to have it cleaned out and was told that it was damaged beyond repair inside. Because of that, I’ve expected that I was at least going to have to clean out the fuel lines and rebuild the carburetor as well as installing a new tank and sending unit. I had a few minutes last night and pulled the carb off to find that the interior of the intake is rusted in a weird, crystally way that makes it look wet. Also that a scorpion fell in and died.

Maybe I put scorpions in all of my cars back then. I don’t remember.

So I guess I also get to pull the intake off, clean it up and see what kind of shape the heads are in. Eventually. Right after I fix the transmission in Truckasaurus. Sigh.
