Truckasaurus

I’ve had my 1987 Toyota pickup for about 15 years now – ever since I moved to the mountains and decided 4 wheel drive is handy in the snow. Truckasaurus has been pretty dependable, but she is 32 years old and things are wearing out. A few weeks ago I noticed that she’ll move forward with the clutch out and the stick in neutral, I have to double-clutch to get her in second, and if I put her in reverse, she shakes like crazy. It is almost like she’s somewhat stuck in a forward gear. Both the transmission and transfer case have leaked since I’ve had her, so I decided to take them both out, see if I can fix the transmission and seal up the transfer case.

The fun part here is that I’ve never done any real transmission work. Especially on a manual because I’ve never had one fail before. So this is going to be exciting! And as an added bonus, I got to add a transmission jack to my collection of fine Harbor Freight tools. Woo!
